    • Jesus desires relationship

Posted at 9:00 am by sneuhofer, on April 23, 2018
Colossians 1: 15-18 (MSG) “We look at this Son and see the God who cannot be seen. We look at this Son and see God’s original purpose in everything created. For everything, absolutely everything, above and below, visible and invisible, rank after rank after rank of angels—everything got started in him and finds its purpose in him. He was there before any of it came into existence and holds it all together right up to this moment. And when it comes to the church, he organizes and holds it together, like a head does a body.”

He stepped out of His perfect heaven to set an example for us to follow and to show His love for us all. He didn’t come into this world ruling with an iron fist or clothed in the adorning robes of kings and princes. He chose to come in the most humble form, a baby. We see His earthly life and ministry revealed on the pages of scripture.

“He grew up before him like a tender shoot, and like a root out of dry ground. He had no beauty or majesty to attract us to him, nothing in his appearance that we should desire him. He was despised and rejected by men, a man of sorrows, and familiar with suffering. Like one from whom men hide their faces he was despised, and we esteemed him not.” (Isaiah 53: 2- 3 NIV)

Even though this world didn’t accept Him, His great love for us crossed every imaginable boundary; social, political, racial.  He served all; the outcasts, the homeless, the poor, the sick. He was blameless, spotless, and sinless; yet He chose to take on the sins of the world – your sin, my sin – so we could be delivered once and for all from the power of sin.

“All things were made by him, and nothing was made without him. In him there was life, and that life was the light of all people. The Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overpowered it.” (John 1: 3- 5 NCV)

The God of the universe, maker of heaven and earth, sustainer of all life desires a close and personal relationship with each and every one of us. So much so, He made a way for everyone who believes in Him to be with Him forever. It is only through Him that we experience abundant life and will live forever in His eternal kingdom.

Just think about it…God wants a relationship with me. It just blows my mind sometimes. He loves me completely and unconditionally. He sees me at my absolute worst and still accepts me as I am. Loving me so much, He doesn’t want me to stay the way I am. He wants me to be more like Jesus. So, Jesus walked this earth not just to show me how to live and love others, but to die a horrendous death on the cross so I could experience freedom in Him. He wants the exact same thing for you too.

Do you know anyone who would sacrifice their own son just for you?  God did. He loves us that much. Believe it….it’s true..the only unconditional love you will ever experience.

How is your relationship with Christ? Do you spend time everyday getting to know Him by reading the pages of His word and praying? Do you rely on Him in every area of your life? Are you learning and growing in Him?

It has been my experience that on days I don’t talk to Him or crack open my Bible (or the app on my cell phone) my day seems empty  – like something is missing – sometimes downright overwhelming. When I try to handle the things of my day in my own strength I fail miserably. But those days that I choose to spend some time reading His word and talking with Him throughout the day, are the most rewarding and fulfilling – even if they are tough.

Father, may I never tire of reading your word and talking to you in the mornings and throughout the day when I have a free moment.

    • How is raising kiddos like football?

Posted at 8:45 am by sneuhofer, on September 7, 2017

Deuteronomy 6: 5 – 9 (MSG) “Love God, your God, with your whole heart: love him with all that’s in you, love him with all you’ve got! Write these commandments that I’ve given you today on your hearts. Get them inside of you and then get them inside your children. Talk about them wherever you are, sitting at home or walking in the street; talk about them from the time you get up in the morning to when you fall into bed at night. Tie them on your hands and foreheads as a reminder; inscribe them on the doorposts of your homes and on your city gates.”

My son has always been an animated storyteller. Since he was old enough to talk he’d wake up in the morning chattering away and not stop really until he drifted off to the adventures that awaited him in his nightly dreams.  I remember his confidence and boldness showing at a very early age. It was his first day of kindergarten. On the drive to school he decided that he was no longer “Mommy’s baby” he was a big “Kindergartner.” He confidently exclaimed “Mom, I’m not your baby anymore. I am a kinder-gar-den-er and you know that I am much bigger than a baby.” He was so sure of himself, an assurance I hadn’t seen in him until that day.

Like most other mothers I know, I had to choke back tears as a flood of emotion overwhelmed me. “See ya Mom” he boasted, tossing a little wave my way. He hopped out of the car and was off on a new adventure. As I watched him walk away, I realized that my baby boy was growing up. Where had the first five years gone? Just yesterday he was coming home from the hospital. Then it hit me, the words of Deuteronomy chapter 6 verses 5 through 9 came to life in a way they never had before. Was I training my child to love God and obey His commands?  As I drove away from the drop-off zone I prayed “Father, have I taught him to love you with all of his heart? Am I pointing to you enough to leave a lasting impression? Please help me be more proactive in showing him your love and mercy.”

In the days that followed that first day of school God revealed several things to assure me that my son was in-fact learning to hide His word in that tiny little heart of his. For example, one night while my husband and I were cleaning up from dinner, my son grabbed the pocket size Bible I usually carry in my purse and headed over to his Dad’s chair. Making himself comfortable, he opened the Bible as if he were going to begin reading. His little finger moved over the page as he recited his memory verse (Luke 11:1) “Lord, teach me to pray.” A tear ran down my face. My son hadn’t even learned how to read but in spite of that he managed to hide the truth of that verse in his heart. For me that was huge, especially since my unbelieving husband was just a few feet away. I quickly praised God for the little light that was shining through my son.

God continues to this day to use the light inside my son. What a blessing it is to be able to send our son to a school where the word of God is incorporated into the curriculum and prayer is encouraged. Through the years, my faith has been increased by seeing my son’s child-like faith in action, and I pray my husband will come to know Christ by seeing our son incorporate Godly principles into his life.

So how is raising kiddos like a football game?

Four quarters make up an entire football game. Let’s suppose that, similar to a football game, you divide the time you have raising your child (children) into four 5-year quarters. If you look back over the first five years of your child’s life, ask yourself how you are doing in “training your child in the way he or she should go.” Have you pointed him/her/them to Christ? Have you encouraged them to hide God’s word in their hearts? Have you encouraged them to pray?  Encouraging them to establish a firm foundation while they are young will help them to avoid sinking sand when they are older. God’s word promises that.

Father, I praise you today for who You are, and for the things that You are doing inside our house. Thank you for placing Godly influences in my son’s life at church and school. I pray that you will continue to guide me in training him in the way that he should go. I know he will not depart from these ways when he is older because Your word promises that. Let Your light continue to shine bright through him and me so that others may see and believe that you are God. Amen

    • Little man…Big heart

Posted at 8:45 am by sneuhofer, on August 23, 2017
Revelation 3:20 (NIV) Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me.
Have you ever stopped and really thought about your “journey” to find Christ? Whether you’ve been walking with Him for 20 years or 20 minutes, I believe there is a period of “seeking” Him. I grew up in a Christian home and knew Christ from a very early age. Sadly though, by my mid-teens I succumbed to peer pressure eventually leading me far, far away from Christ or anything having to do with Him. My road back to Christ was paved with countless heartaches, disastrous mistakes and took over a 30 year period of time. Yet, as I take a conscious look back over my life, I can see that I was never alone. God was there, on every mountaintop and in every pit.
I was reminded of the story of Zacchaeus in a sermon I heard recently and it challenged me to think about my own road back to Christ and do some deeper research into the story of Zacchaeus. During my study, I found out that Jesus was on his way back to Bethany to raise Lazarus from the dead. He really didn’t even have to go through Jericho. There were other, quicker routes he could have taken.  So why would He go out of his way? I believe Jesus knew what was going to happen with Zacchaeus in the city of Jericho that day.
Zacchaeus was one of the most influential Jews in the Roman tax-collecting business (Luke 19:2 – TLB). He had heard of Jesus and wanted to get a look at Him. Because he was shorter than most, he ran ahead of the crowd and climbed a Sycamore tree to get a better look. I wonder what people thought of him as he ran through the crowd? Think about it for just a minute…what would you think if you saw one of the richest men of our time (Bill Gates, Warren Buffett, Sam Walton) running through the streets just so he could get a look at a man coming down the road? I don’t think Zacchaeus really cared.  Perhaps he wanted to see the man everyone had been talking about…the miracle worker, the great physician, the One who talked with authority. Scripture really doesn’t tell us.
It was Christ who spoke first.
“Zacchaeus, come down immediately. I must stay at your house today.” (Luke 19:5 – NIV)
Okay, so how would you feel if a man you’ve never met before calls you by name and invites himself to your house for dinner? I think several questions would be running through my head. How does he know my name? Since he knows my name what has he heard about me? Does he know I’m a hard-nosed tax collector? No one wants to be in the company of tax collectors!
But Zacchaeus doesn’t ask any of those questions. Luke 19:6 tells us: “So he came down at once and welcomed him gladly.” (NIV)
Can you just imagine the faces of everyone in the crowd? They probably weren’t much different than those in the crowd today because everyone back then began to talk about it too. Luke 19:7 tell us that all the people saw this and began to mutter, “He has gone to be the guest of a sinner.”
When Jesus walked the earth, everything He did was intentional – for a purpose. Jesus crossed racial, social, and political boundaries to reach the lost. That day, Zacchaeus may have been trying to get a look at Jesus….but it was Jesus who saw Him and spoke first.
This encounter with Jesus changed Zacchaeus’ heart in a big way. He wasn’t the self-centered tax collector he once was. Zacchaeus was a new creation (2 Corinthians 5:17) and he was about to show everyone the inward change by an outward action. He gave back more than he had taken….4 times more!
“But Zacchaeus stood and said to the Lord, ‘I will give half of my possessions to the poor. And if I have cheated anyone, I will pay back four times more.’ ” (Luke 19:8 – NCV)
WOW! Since you’ve said yes to Jesus has  your life changed at all? Can people around you tell you’ve had a heart change by your changed behavior?
