    • Casting my Cares on Christ!

Posted at 11:30 am by sneuhofer, on September 29, 2020

1 Peter 5:7 Give all your worries to him because he cares for you.

Anyone who knows me can tell you that I tend to be a worrier. Just recently with everything going on around me, not to mention current events, my level of anxiety had gotten so bad I felt as if I had allowed it to have some sort of “hold” on every area of my life. I couldn’t breathe. The harder I tried not to worry, the more I stressed out and further overboard I’d go. My anxiety attacks wreaked havoc on my health and personal relationships.

I felt out of control and helpless to stop them.

      Have you ever been there?

While reading my Bible this morning I was gently reminded that I am not supposed to be anxious or afraid about anything. God has perfect order and control over everything, even my life. My proper response to anxiety should be to cast my cares on Christ because he cares for me (1 Peter 5:7). He has always cared for me even before I was born. He carefully knit me together in my mother’s womb (Psalm 139:13) and every day of my life was ordained before they even came to be (Psalm 139:16).

The same is true for you too.

When I feel the slightest bit of anxiety building up inside of me, I am learning to bring everything to God through prayer and petition, always with thanksgiving (Philippians 4:6-7). Then I know the peace of God which transcends all understanding will guard my heart and my mind in Christ Jesus. When my mind is guarded by Christ, anxiety and worry don’t stand a chance.

If you are suffering from anxiety, I pray you will cast your cares on Christ. You, my friend, were made for so much more than the anxiety you carry.

    • The life-giving arms of love

Posted at 7:00 am by sneuhofer, on April 19, 2019

Ephesians 2:8-9 (NLT) “God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it.”

“Sin entered the world through one man…and in this way death came to all men, because all have sinned.” (Romans 5:12) As a result of Adam’s fall in the Garden of Eden, we were all born with a sin nature but according to these verses in Ephesians, we don’t have to remain dead in them. Salvation is a gift from God. It’s not something we can earn or an award we can win for the good things we’ve done.

God gave us the ultimate gift of salvation in Christ Jesus, his one, and only son. “He (Jesus) took our suffering on him and felt our pain for us. We saw his suffering and thought God was punishing him. But he was wounded for the wrong we did; he was crushed for the evil we did. The punishment, which made us well, was given to him, and we are healed because of his wounds.” (Isaiah 53:4-5)

We will never be able to earn our way into heaven (salvation) by helping the needy, working with children in orphanages, going on trips to help with disaster relief efforts, or even by living a good and moral life. The only way we can receive the gift of Salvation is to accept what Christ did for us all on Calvary. He was beaten, flogged (pieces of his skin were torn off – he was basically unrecognizable), and nailed to a cross so that he (and he alone) could pay the price for our sin.

He died so we wouldn’t have to. He loves us that much.

He (Jesus Christ) is worthy of all our praise and worship, for paying our debt and pulling us from sin’s death-grip into his life-giving, arms of love.

    • Always and Never

Posted at 9:06 am by sneuhofer, on February 21, 2019

The Truth about the words Always and Never

John 5:17 (NIV) “In his defense Jesus said to them, “My Father is always at his work to this very day, and I too am working.”

Do you use the words “always” and “never” to describe a habit or a character trait you or someone close to you may have? For example: “He is NEVER going to change. He will ALWAYS be that way.”

I have used these very words more times than I can count. Something happens and I revert to the old adage “THAT will NEVER happen.” Or “I am ALWAYS going to be this way.” Or “She will NEVER change.”

This morning, I had to go to the dictionary to determine what these words actually meant.

always (adv): Perpetually; throughout all time. 2. Continually; without variation.

never (adv): Not ever; not at any time; at no time. It refers to the past or the future.

Whoa… did you catch that? These definitions tell me these two words, when used to in the context of my examples above, offer little hope for the person plagued by the ALWAYS and/or NEVER statement. As I looked through the lens of the Bible this morning, I was reminded of the simple truth that GOD is ALWAYS at work. Now this is an ALWAYS I like. If God is ALWAYS at work in me and in the people around me…then people CAN change.Based on this morning’s revelation, I am going to, with Christ’s help, eliminate the words ALWAYS and NEVER from my vocabulary once and for all as they relate to negativity about me or those around me.

Moving forward, the ALWAYS and NEVER statements I choose to focus on are the ones found in the truth of God’s word:

John 5:17 – My Father is ALWAYS at work

Deuteronomy 31:8 – The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will NEVER leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.
