    • A glimpse of my life’s journey

Posted at 7:00 am by sneuhofer, on February 22, 2018

Proverbs 5:21 (NIV) For your ways are in full view of the Lord, and he examines all your paths.

Have you ever been in a situation where you were convinced God wasn’t there? Maybe, you think, He didn’t hear your cries or that he just doesn’t care? I know I’ve sure been in that place. But what I’ve found is this, the closer I get to Christ and understand his character, the more I realize he has, is, and will always be by my side no matter the circumstance in which I find myself. Here are the truths I know:

      • God is near and continually watches over my path (Proverbs 5:21).
      • He cares so much about me that all my days have been ordered and numbered by him (Psalm 139:16).
      • Furthermore, he knows the number of hairs on my head (Matthew 10:30) and he has and will continue to wipe every tear from my eyes (Rev. 7:17, 21:4).
      • He love us even when we are unlovable, knee deep in sin (Romans 5:8)

I was made VERY aware of these truths a few yeas back when I had been praying and seeking God’s face for answers but He had remained quiet. He chose to speak to me during a powerful praise and worship session. I can remember the exact song He chose to open my eyes and ears so that I could receive that day’s special message. The song we sang was When it’s all been said and done by Don Moen. Here are the words to the first verse that got me truly thinking that morning:

“When it’s all been said and done
There is just one thing that matters
Did I do my best to live for truth?
Did I live my life for you?”

After hearing this verse, I began the process of thinking back through my life. Had I really done my best to live for Jesus? Had I pointed people to him through the life I was living?

It was while singing “I Surrender All” that God revealed my entire life, from the moment I received Jesus’ invitation to “come” and “follow” him at 11 years-old until that very Saturday morning. This imagery was AWESOME! It was as if I were sitting in a box seat and my entire life laid out before me like a parade on the road below. At the beginning of the path I saw my shaking body step out of the pew and into the isle at my family’s Baptist church. Jesus stood beside me leading the way down to the alter to talk with the Pastor.

As I continued down the path, I came to a fork on the left. This fork led to a glimpse of my teen and early adult years. During this time, friends and other things were a huge distraction and pulled me away from the path Jesus had me on and into things I never dreamed I’d ever do. Jesus, clearly “last” on my list during this time of my life, was still there beside me. He hadn’t left me even though I chose to go in a different direction. At the end of the fork, I saw myself battered and bruised by the “junk” of this world. Jesus still there beside me…even though I couldn’t feel him. He held me and told me he loved me no matter how far I had stepped away from his perfect plan.

I wept as I allowed the imagery and the words to the next song to wash over me. Here is a link to the song and a few of the lyrics.

       Hallelujah, hallelujah
For our Lord God Almighty reigns
      Hallelujah, hallelujah
For our Lord God Almighty reigns
      Hallelujah

Hands held high, I lost myself in the music and sang praises to and worshiped the Lord.

       Holy Holy
      Are You Lord God Almighty
      Worthy is the Lamb
      Worthy is the Lamb
      You are Holy

The last song began to play, just as God revealed my life’s journey once more. Jesus and I were back on the path and I could hear his voice “your entire life has led you to this place Sheri. Use what I have given you to reach others for me.” The worship song we were signing at the time of this revelation was Arise by Don Moen.

One thing we ask of you
      One thing that we desire
      That as we worship you
Lord come and change our lives
      Arise, Arise, Arise, Arise

Jesus did change my life that morning. I saw His sovereignty throughout my life and how it has led me to that very day. The excitement and sheer joy overwhelmed me that morning and compelled me to start writing for Him again. I had fallen away from what He had asked me to to…lead people to Him through my writing. Since that day, I’ve been writing and sharing devotions through my blog. Who knows where He will lead next. I know I can’t wait to see what awaits.

My prayer for you this morning is that you will find time to get lost in praise and worship. Ask Jesus to show you who He is during your time with Him then truly worship him! Worship Him for who He is in your life right now.

Do you even know who He is in your life at this particular time?

      • Is He your Savior?
      • Is He Lord (Yahweh) of your life? Meaning have you given Him full control to change things in your life?
      • Is He your Prince of Peace during whatever circumstance you have going on in your life right now.
      • Is He your provider (Jehovah Jireh)?
      • Is He your counselor?
      • Is He your loving Father?
      • Is He your Rock?
      • Is He your hiding place?

Father, reveal yourself to us a very real and powerful way today. May our lives be laid our before you, and may each day bring you honor and glory. Amen.

    • Loving each other

Posted at 7:00 am by sneuhofer, on February 21, 2018

1 John 3:13 (NCV) Brothers and sisters, do not be surprised when the people of the world hate you.

God loves us so much we are called his children. We belong to Him and once we accept Him as our Lord and Savior, we are made new. In God’s eyes we are a new creation (2 Cor. 5:17). As we grow in our Christian faith, we change to become more like Jesus Christ. The Bible tells us in 1 John 3 that the world will not know us – in fact we are hated – because the world doesn’t know God.

We know that sin causes us to break God’s law. If we are in Christ and continue to sin, do we really understand and know him in the first place? (v 6) The Bible says we don’t. John encourages us to stop sinning and be like Christ. Christ loved so therefore, we must do the same. We must love each other. John tells us in verse 14 that “whoever does not love is still dead.” In fact John continues with “Everyone who hates a brother or sister is a murderer.”  Whoa! Stop here for just a second. Have you ever uttered the words “I hate that guy!” or “I hate her!”? I know I sure have. I remember on several occasions when I said “I hate ______________!”

When I was younger my dad asked me all the time “hate is such a strong word babe, do you really hate or do you just dislike?” It took a while before I understood that hating someone was just like murdering them. I know I don’t want to be considered a murderer in God’s eyes… do you? We must love… because Christ loved us. But (of course there’s a but…) according to John, words are not enough. We must back up our words with action and true caring (v 18).

I am still learning to love the way Christ loves. Whenever I feel myself wanting to utter the words “I really hate ____________.” I have to remind myself of what I am actually saying. I would much rather work towards loving the way Christ loved instead of being consumed by hate.

    • Leave “the catch” behind

Posted at 7:00 am by sneuhofer, on February 20, 2018

Luke 5:4 – 11 (NCV) When Jesus had finished speaking, he said to Simon, “Take the boat into deep water, and put your nets in the water to catch some fish.”  Simon answered, “Master, we worked hard all night trying to catch fish, and we caught nothing. But you say to put the nets in the water, so I will.” When the fishermen did as Jesus told them, they caught so many fish that the nets began to break. They called to their partners in the other boat to come and help them. They came and filled both boats so full that they were almost sinking. When Simon Peter saw what had happened, he bowed down before Jesus and said, “Go away from me, Lord. I am a sinful man!” He and the other fishermen were amazed at the many fish they caught, as were James and John, the sons of Zebedee, Simon’s partners. Jesus said to Simon, “Don’t be afraid. From now on you will fish for people.” When the men brought their boats to the shore, they left everything and followed Jesus.

Each year I try to read through the gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John in a different translation of the Bible and as I read through, my eyes are fascinated by what I find there. I try to imagine myself at the scene… what do I see happening around me, how do I feel about what is going on, how do I react to the events taking place? These are just some of the questions that come to mind.

In the fifth chapter of Luke, the story is told of Jesus calling his first disciples. Ok are you ready? Let’s go to the scene. A mass of people are gathered around Jesus ready to listen to whatever he has to say. As he prepares to teach, Jesus noticed two boats on the shore of the lake of Galilee.  These boats had been left by fishermen while they went off to clean their nets from their work the night before.  Seeing the boats and the lake as an opportunity for voice projection, Jesus saw Peter and asked him to push him off from the land so he could continue his teaching.

Have you ever stopped to wonder what was going through Peter’s mind at this point? Think about it, he’s been out fishing all night. Peter has got to be tired. He’s probably in desperate need of a shower and something to eat. But how does Peter respond? Does he say something like “Dude, I just want to finish my work and go home.” No. Peter did as Jesus asked. He didn’t complain, grumble, or ask Jesus to get someone else to do it. He just did it, no questions asked.

After Jesus finished talking to the crowd, he returns to shore and has a second experience with Peter.

“Take the boat into the deep water, and put your nets into the water and catch some fish.”

Now I don’t know about you, but I know what I would probably be thinking here. if I were Peter. It would probably sound something like “Is this guy for real? He has got to be crazy. I’ve been at this all night long and I’m tired. Every bone in my body hurts and all I want to do is go home and go to bed.”

      But what does Peter say?

      “Master.”

What? Master? Peter recognized that there was something different about Jesus. Jesus had some type of authority. Peter continues “we’ve worked hard all night trying to catch fish, and we caught nothing.  But if you say to put the nets in the water, so I will. (v. 5)” (Emphasis mine)

WOW!  Did you catch that?  Peter bumped into Jesus that morning on the shore yet there was something about him and again Peter did as he asked. In went the nets and out came the biggest catch of Peter’s life.  Can you just imagine the look on Peter’s face? This was by far going to be a big pay day for him, perhaps his biggest ever. Yet, the story doesn’t end there.  Jesus said to Peter “from now on you will fish for people.  Come follow me. (v. 10)”

Peter dropped everything, even the biggest catch of his life, and followed Christ… without question and without hesitation.

Picture yourself on the shore that morning. Would you have been like Peter and left the most lucrative catch of your life to follow Jesus?

Let’s bring it back to present day…what will you leave to follow where Christ is leading?
