Have you ever just stopped and allowed the words found in scripture to sink in?  I did that this morning when I read the words of Psalm 119:50 (NCV).

“When I suffer, this comforts me: Your promise gives me life.”

As I reflect on these words, I think about all of the promises God has for each and every one of us. This morning, one promise quickly popped into my mind

Psalm 28:7 (NIV) The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and he helps me. My heart leaps for joy, and with my song I praise him.

In recent months, this is the promise I’ve held closest to my heart. My closest friends know that there are times when I have a “death grip” on the “steering wheel” of my life. [Control issues much?] I hold on so tight to things I have no control over and this produces so much anxiety. I know that I should just let go…but my grip gets even tighter. The process is downright exhausting. Praise God for His patience with me. He sees my struggle and even though I have to hand my control issues over to him 100 times a day He cares about the “battle” and is leading me through this valley on to victory!

This morning, I was reminded all over again that the Lord’s promises give me life… an abundant life (John 10:10) at that! In these promises, I can find hope in any circumstance that comes my way.

Praise you Father for your love and kindness. Help us to become ever mindful of your Presence and your Word, even when the storms of life are raging.  Amen.

Here are a few promises I am standing on today:

Psalm 27:13 (NIV) I remain confident of this: I will see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living.

Psalm 57:10 (NIV) For great is your love, reaching to the heavens; your faithfulness reaches to the skies.

Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV) For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

Hebrews 6:19 – 20 (NIV) We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. It enters the inner sanctuary behind the curtain, where our forerunner, Jesus, has entered on our behalf. He has become a high priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek.
