Hebrews 4:13 (NIV) Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account.
After reading Hebrews 4:13, my mind went back to the story of Adam and Even in the garden of Eden (Genesis 3). Immediately after both of them had taken a bite of forbidden fruit, they knew they had done something wrong. Their eyes were opened to the knowledge of good and evil. Just like God said they would be. They had sinned against God and that made them feel shameful and afraid of God. Adam and Even had never once felt like that until they disobeyed God’s command to stay away from that one tree.
Hebrews 4:13 tells us that nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight… NOTHING! Adam and Eve may have thought God didn’t see them fall into temptation that day… but HE DID. God knew exactly what was going on because He is God, and NOTHING IS HIDDEN from Him. In the beginning Adam and Even were laid bare before God because they didn’t know they were naked. The second they ate the fruit their eyes were opened to the reality of the world around them and everything changed.
Their relationship with God…forever changed. When God asked Adam “Where are you?” that day, it wasn’t because God didn’t know where they were. God is God…He knows EVERYTHING! He asked the question for Adam’s benefit. Adam was hiding from God because of his SIN. God wanted Adam to face his sin. One thing that God has given us from the very beginning is FREE WILL. Adam and Eve both had free will. They could do what God told them to do and live, or disobey and die. But the thing about free will… it comes with accountability. God was holding Adam accountable. Adam had to answer for what he did and then face the consequences of his actions.
We too will give an account for EVERYTHING we have done. Now, the good stuff is easy to account for…but what about the SIN in our life? Sometimes that’s not so easy because we, just like Adam and Eve, like to keep the bad stuff hidden. But God wants us to bring everything we have – the good and the bad – to Him. When we confess our sin, God is faith and just to forgive us and purify us from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9).
God sees our life…all of it. The part we want people to see and the part we don’t. There is no escaping His sight (Psalm 33:13 – 15, Psalm 90:8, Proverbs 15:3, 1 Corinthians 4:5)
Is there something you are doing that you wouldn’t want God to find out about? Bring it to the light today. Get help if you need to from a Godly friend or mentor. Then ask someone you trust to hold you accountable.
God will forgive you for EVERYTHING, it is up to you to confess it and then walk away.
